My IBM PC running Windows XP died (power supply failure), but the internal boot Hard Drive is intact and uncorrupted. I am trying to access it to recover my files with my new HP laptop running Windows 8 via a USB cable. I am able to open the drive and
few the folders/files, but cannot open or copy them because my "access is denied." I have done everything I am able to do as an administrator through the access controls, including taking ownership, etc., but still cannot access, copy, or modify
my files in my administrator password-protected folder(s). Accessing the non password protected guest and other user accounts is no problem, but these aren't the files I need. If I could boot from the drive somehow--I doubt it--or somehow open the user accounts
to enter my XP password, that would be fine. I don't, however, receive any opportunity to enter my XP user password.
